Background Details
This lot is the result of coordinated harvesting and processing from multiple small-scale producers working across Bungoma County in Western Kenya, near the Ugandan border. The area’s rich volcanic soil, high altitude, and cool climate create ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. Coffee cherries are processed at several wet mills in the region, where they undergo a traditional washed process to enhance the coffee’s brightness and structure.
Mikono Coffee, the importer behind this offering, is a Kenyan-owned company committed to supporting regional farmers through transparent sourcing and producer-focused trade. Their model is built to connect roasters more closely with the individuals growing their coffee, while acting only as a bridge, not a gatekeeper. This Bungoma AB lot reflects not only the potential of Western Kenya’s terroir but also a growing shift toward more equitable and connected supply chains.
